Have you ever had a time where, no matter how much you work, you don’t have the results you want? I have.
In fact, it still happens to me to this day. I’m constantly growing as I learn new things, but there is always a point where I don’t get what I had expected I would have.
What you think works, and what really works are two completely different things.
That’s why I pondered. I read tons of articles, watched tons of videos.. in the hope of finding “the thing”, or “the answer”.. and guess what?
I found it.
Truth is, this is so simple that I hadn’t thought of it.
We always make things complicated, when most of the time, they’re not.
Let’s take an exemple so it makes it easier for everyone: you’re overweight. You weigh 200 lbs, and want to lose, say.. 40 lbs. You’re actively doing some exercices, try to eat healthy “when you can”, and decide you would walk more often instead of taking the public transport. Nice.
Now here’s the thing: you’re not getting the results you want. You still weigh 200 lbs. How come? It seems you “did everything you needed to do”. You had done so much research, talked to so much people about that.. yet you’re still overweight.
“What does that mean?” you ask.
I already know the answer, but “you” don’t. Why is that? What is the difference between you and me?
Here’s what it is:
I know something you don’t.
It’s as simple as that.
You may have done whatever, if you lack “this” piece of information.. it’s natural you’re not succeeding in achieving your goal. Actually, this exemple is also a great way of saying “talk to people who have been there”. Indeed, if “I’m the expert” or “I’m the one who knows the answer”, instead of trying to figure it out by yourself.. you could just ask me.
Anyway, here’s where I’m going with this:
If it doesn’t work, it just means there’s something you don’t know.
It’s that easy.
In fact, it’s SO easy that I hadn’t thought of it. If it doesn’t work, it’s just because you don’t know the key factor. That’s all.
You probably know Einstein’s popular definition of insanity: “Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”
If what you’re doing doesn’t work, stop doing it. Stop doing it, but don’t stop pondering about it. Because if you’re not getting the result you want, it’s because THERE IS SOMETHING you DON’T KNOW.
Let’s go back to our exemple.
I previously told you that “you” were eating clean “when you could”. Did you wondered why I put quotation marks to it? It’s because there lies the mistake “you” made, or should I say “the piece of knowledge you hadn’t”.
Here’s the thing: you believed you were eating clean enough to lose weigh. In reality, you weren’t. You may have been eating clean during meals.. but what if you were also snacking between the said “clean” meals? Yep. There’s your answer.
You (mistakenly) thought, that by walking on a daily basis, that by eating clean during meals, and that by doing exercices.. you would lose weight. But you didn’t KNOW that snacking between meals will have such an impact on your health.. on your body.
This is WHY you were NOT getting the results you expected.
Does it sound too easy? It’s because it is. Like I said, we humans have the bad habit of making things harder than they are.
It wasn’t that losing weight was hard. It’s just a process, after all. You follow it, and that’s it. What was harder, was to understand the root of your problem came from your head.. or more often refered to as “mindset”.
He often makes excuses, or limit ourselves when we really don’t need to. The thing is, it’s all about the mindset.
What’s keeping you from achieving success, before your lack of knowledge, is your mindset. That’s why I strongly suggest for ANYONE that’s serious about achieving their goals in life.. to STUDY as much as they can their mindset. It’s like the most important thing you could do.
Think about it.
What’s always there, no matter where you go?
You’re the only variable that doesn’t change no matter what you do and with whom you do it.
Before I wrap it up, I want you to take action: here’s what I want you to do: think about the area in which you’re not getting the results you want. Think about what you did in the past, what worked and what didn’t worked.
Now, I want you to sincerely ask yourself this question: “What don’t I know?”
Your job is to find what’s the missing variable.
By the way, I’m not saying everything is over you can retire. Finding what’s missing is far from being easy.. but you did, in my opinion, the most important thing: you realized that you needed to do something new.
What you were doing at first, was similar to trying to solve a puzzle without knowing if the number of pieces you have is sufficient to solving it. Or, trying to build a house without a foundation first.
And yet, as easy as it may seem.. most people – myself included – don’t think of it.
When you get in a situation where you feel like you’re a failure, and that you’re not making any progress.. it may be the time to ask yourself the big question.
