What To Do When You Have No Motivation

Here’s What To Do When You Have No Motivation

No matter how important something may be to you, there will always be times where you find yourself having no motivation at all.

There is nothing wrong with that, it’s just part of the process of our journey called life.

However, the fact that there are ups and downs doesn’t mean that it should always be the case: if you lack motivation all the time, then there’s something wrong with your objective.

In this article, I’ll be sharing with you the best techniques that I used and still use every single to keep myself motivated, so that you know what to do when you have no motivation.

Know What You Want

The very first step is to actually have clarity on what you want. If you don’t even know yourself what you want in life, how can life give you what you want?

You must be crystal clear on what you truly desire.

1- Set A Vision

Before you set any goals, you should always have a vision. After all, isn’t it the purpose of a goal to move you towards your vision?

Although goals are usually short-terms (few years max.), your vision is what you truly desire 10, 20 or even 30 years from now. It may be something so unrealistic for you right now that you don’t even dare to think about it, it doesn’t matter as long as it motivates YOU.

You should always make sure that everything you plan for your life excites you, and don’t excite other people but you. Although a kick in a butt from time to time to get yourself back on track never hurt anyone, the worst advice I could give you is to ‘use your willpower’.

Listen: willpower does not last. It is great to push yourself when you need it, but not every single day.

2 – Set Goals

Once you have a vision that excites you, you need to set goals to move towards it: after all, there is no possible way to move from where you are today to where you want to be if you don’t make progress in your life. Goals are very important as it’s the vehicule that allows you to go from point A to point B.

Unlike the vision, you want your goals more realistic: although you could make 10 million dollars in the next 10 years no matter where you start now, it would be unrealistic to set this goal as a New Year Resolution if you don’t even make $100.000/year.

Know Why You Want It

The biggest step towards knowing what to do when you have no motivation is to actually find reasons why something excites you. And no, ”This is cool” is not a good reason.

This is why I need you to go through set your vision first: you need to find reasons why achieving this is important to you. If you find yourself having no motivation towards working on some big project that could change your life forever, then finding good reasons is a must.

You want as much reasons as possible. Although you only might think of a few at first, I want you to go to at least 10 reasons and beyond. The purpose of this exercise is to force your mind to come up with new answers, new possibilites that you had never thought of before.

Know What And Why You Want It Every Single Day

Doing once is not enough, you must constantly remind yourself of it. It would be to ponder on your motivations once and then forget about it.

Once of the best advices I could give you is to create a ritual for yourself every single day in which you’ll repeat every reasons why achieving your vision/goals is a must.

When you do that, you’d want to say it with as much conviction and passion as possible. Although it might seem strange, it actually conditions your mind every day so that each time you have no motivation, you can just quickly change your state.

You now know what to do when you have no motivation. I have been through this process times and times again, and it worked wonders. Always make sure that you proactively do something to motivate yourself, instead of waiting for motivation to come.
